NPD market research has released a report stating that the iPhone is the top mobile handset in the United States, holding a second place only behind the wildly popular Motorola RAZR of its time. The iPhone had captured 17% of smartphone sales, beating out rivals Research in Motion with the BlackBerry Pearl and Curve as well as Palm with the Centro smartphone. » Best Selling US Handset: iPhone 3G

In regards to email, Gizmodo is reporting that the iPhone won’t fetch email while in sleep mode. A reader has confirmed that Apple has this as a “known problem,” and hopefully a fix is on the way. For those worried about battery life, this problem may not be bad.

According to an article on AppleInsider the Cupertino-based firm is well on its way to exceeding its own expectations for 10 million iPhones in the year 2008. Using data from operating systems online from Net Applications OS Marketshare and from IMEI tracking from Mac Observer’s, it is estimated that Apple has sold between 7 to 7.5 million iPhones in the fourth quarter of this year with the debut of the iPhone 3G, much higher than the 4 million analysts had anticipated. » iPhone Sales Higher Than Anticipated

The iPhone Dev-Team, hard at work on the iPhone 3G unlock and the iPod Touch 2G jailbreak, have posted an entry. It’s not an unlock or a jailbreak, but it does seem to be progress. Source IT Software is busy with the development of an accelerometer-controlled first person shooter for the iPhone. The goal of the game, called Zombie Mansion, is trying to escape form a mansion full of zombies and kill anybody who gets in the way. From the first screen shots on the developer website, the graphics looks quit nice, but we will have to wait till November for the first tests.
Zombie Mansion will be available through the App Store.
