Earlier we already wrote that “according to the latest rumors” Apple will host an iPad Mini Media Event on October 23. Later Jim Dalrymple confirmed the date with a simple “yep” and now Reuters “a major news outlet” reports that Apple will indeed hold a Media Event on October 23 to unveil “a smaller iPad”.

Apple Inc will host an event on October 23 where it is expected to unveil a smaller iPad that will take on the less expensive devices offered by Amazon.com Inc and Google Inc, a source familiar with the matter said on Friday…

…The consumer device company is gearing up to unveil a new product at a major October 23 event, said the source, who declined to be named, only days before Microsoft Corp unveils Windows 8 and its new Surface tablet on October 26.

As long as Apple hasn’t officially announce anything this still remains a rumor, but since Reuters is a major news blog and AllThingsD and Dalrymple already confirming this date, it is starting to look like the real deal.
