Asymco has released data on operating profits among the eight top mobile phone vendors for the first quarter of 2012. And “not surprisingly” you can see that 99% of the mobile phone market profits are made by Apple and Samsung. Infact last quarter 75% was taken by Apple which dropped slightly to 73% now  and Samsung is growing fastest from 16% last quarter to 26% now.

Among the other six vendors, only HTC managed to eke out a profit, taking 1% of the total industry profits. Research in Motion, LG, Sony Ericsson, Motorola, and Nokia each failed to turn a profit on their handset businesses.
