Facebook has just received a pretty big update which includes a new function called “places”. With places you can see where your friends are and friends can check where you are now thanks to GPS. “In the video above you can see the first people checking in on Facebook Places” To make use of “places” both you and your friends need a Smartphone. Till now they only updated the Facebook app on the iPhone, but the Android and Blackberry app will also receive this update on a later date.

Till now “places” is only available in the VS but Facebook promises to roll the feature out to other countries and mobile platforms soon.

Other than “places” Facebook also received some other updates including, a view bug fixes, you can upload images and videos on the background “iOS 4 needed” and you can edit your privacy settings for individual updates.
