redsn0w-300The Dev Team has released a beta version of Redsn0w for Mac OS X to jailbreak OS 4.0 on the iPhone 3G. Redsn0w 0.9.5 is actually meant for developers who are creating Cydia Apps and not for the normal iDevice users because it still got a lot of bugs “like always in beta versions”.

But if you would like to try Redsn0w 0.9.5 beta “which is not recommended” you first need a registered developers license and install OS 4.0 beta 1. If you would like to jailbreak use the Redsn0w 0.9.5 Beta “How To” after the break.

1. To jailbreak your iPhone 3G you first need to update to OS 4.0 beta 1 using iPhone1,2_4.0_8A230m_Restore.ipsw.

2. When updated activate your iPhone 3g via iTunes using you UDID.

3. Start Redsn0w 0.9.5 beta and select the iPhone1,2_4.0_8A230m_Restore.ipsw firmware file, ones selected select Install Cydia and click Next.

4. Now put your iPhone into DFU mode by Pressing the Home button and the Sleep/Wake button at the same time. After exactly 10 seconds release the Sleep/Wake button. Continue holding the home button until your iTunes pops up a message telling you that it has detected an iPhone in recovery mode.

Now OS 4.0 is jailbroken and Cydia is installed. At this point Cydia got a white icon and doesn’t got any sources. To solve that problem open Cydia go to sources and add http://apt.saurik.com/cydia-3.7. Now simple restart Cydia and you will see the Cydia icon and the standard sources.
