When Apple released the Mac OS update 10.5.6, it caused problems for Jailbreakers. The update prevents your Mac from recognizing your iPhone when in DFU Mode. Which as you know is needed when wanting to Unlock/Jailbreak. I would recommend you NOT update if you have a Mac and would like to use QuickPWN or PwnageTool. Now for iPhones that are already Jailbroken, if you upgrade, you need to restore, or You’ll be Screwed. Im pretty sure the Dev Team is aware of this error, and i hope they will be working on it soon.

Workarounds from the Dev Team:

DFU Issues in OS X 10.5.6

Lots of users have been experiencing problems with the use of DFU mode after applying yesterday’s 10.5.6 system update.

We believe this behavior is due to a kernel bug not a specific countermeasure by Apple. Possible fixes are (I or any of the iPhone Freakz staff are NOT responsible for any screw-ups you might do! Try at your own risk!) –

1. Replace the following plugin kexts from within IOUSBFamily.kext with the ones from 10.5.5 and then rebuild kextcache (if you don’t understand this, then you shouldn’t attempt it!)

2. Use a USB hub in-between the DFU device and the Mac and insert/reinsert the iPhone’s USB cable.

3. Use a PwnageTool created .ipsw on Windows! Oh the irony!

Ugh…I jailbroke my 3G yesterday but am having the hardest time getting pdanet to work. I used pdanet for years on my pc and treo (palm os) but can’t seem to get it to work on a mac w/ my iphone. here are the steps I’m following

    1. jailbreak
    2. Create Network. This brings up “Create a Computer-to-Computer network” interface
    3. Name: iPhoneNet.
    4. Channel: Automatic.
    5. Require password. I used WEP and made up a 5 letter password.
    6. Go to Settings on iPhone 3G.
    7. Select iPhoneNet Network. Type in WEP 5 letter password
    8. Try to connect to internet.
