MobileMe is going to cost 79€ in Europe versus 99$ in the USA. That the europeans always pay more then the USA is already common knowledge, but that Europe is getting less service for more money .. that is something new! If you take a US subscription the datatraffic allowed is 200GB, European country’s will only have 100GB! Another strange fact is that family members in the US get 5GB datatraffic as European family members only get 2,5GB. What’s happening with Apple?
UPDATE : Apple has changed the conditions, Europeans now have the same as US based customers. So this article is outdated.
The Dutch version:

An individual membership comes with 20 GB of combined email and file storage, 100 GB of monthly data transfer, up to five e-mailaliasses, and full access to everything MobileMe has to offer.

The US version:

An individual membership comes with 20GB of combined email and file storage, 200GB of monthly data transfer, and full access to everything MobileMe has to offer.

Another really peculiar thing is the fact that the US version doesn’t mention email-alliasses? (but why?)

When we digg a little bit deeper in both versions, we see a difference in the FamilyPacks.

The Dutch version:

The Family Pack includes one individual account plus four Family Member accounts, each with its own email address, 2,5 GB of combined amail and file storage, and 25 GBof monthly data transfer.

The US version:

The Family Pack includes one individual account plus four Family Member accounts, each with its own email address, 5GB of combined email and file storage, and 50GB of monthly data transfer.

I guess this is what Ebay is for… Just get a US version via Ebay and everything is good ;)

The reason is Europeans are rich, they are willing to spend money for this sort of useful service.
I’m in the UK, I would rather use the EU service as my data is protected under the Data Protection Act.

I think it means Apple does not care about Europe that much, again.
For the dataspeed combined with the storagespace it is proposturous what Apple dares to ask, money-wise.
The iPhone and .Mac are not the products that make me proud as an Applefundamentalist.

  5. Mattnh Says:

    Preposterous, of course.

  6. Travis Choma Says:

They changed this, the european data rates are now exactly the same as the US ones, 200 GB traffic, and 5/50GB for Family accounts
