02 confirms Pay-as-you-go iPhone 3G and other tariff plans!

O2 released an official statement today. They will offer a Pay as you go iPhone and will have some other tariff plans. The coolest news regarding this press statement is off course the no contract version! Read more to see the details.
- O2 will Launch the iPhone 3G in the UK on July 11(as previously announced by Apple)
- will be available on all consumer tariffs, business tariffs, and Pay As You Go
Pay As You Go is fantastic news, and I wasn’t expecting it despite the rumours. No price has been announced for the phone on PAYG just yet, but we’ll keep you informed.
The price for the 8gb phone on a £30/month tarrif will be £99 (pretty good deal, we guess), but if you choose a higher £45/month tarrif you’ll get the 8gb model for free.
The price for the 16gb phone is £159 on the £30 and £35 tariffs, £59 on the £45 tariff and it will be free on the £75 tariff.
Based on the prices outlined above, we’d guess that a Pay As You Go version would cost around ~£199 for the 8gb model, and ~£249 for the 16gb model.

There will be a iPhone 3G available with a pay to go formula. So this will mean no activation in the store. The in-store activation has only been confirmed for AT&T (US), no news yet for all the other countries.

I think that the PAYG will be alot more that £199 and £259 for the two versions. The reason for this is the price of the touch, which for a 16GB version it is £269 so this would make it cheaper to buy an iphone and this would render the touch obsolete, and i can’t see apple canablising its product that much.
Therefore the price of the touch will have to come down or the price of the iphone on O2 PAYG will be much higher than people think, propably over £300 for the 8GB.
