Jamendo Ringtones 2.71 now with SMS tones

Jamendo Ringtones has been one of my fav apps since it got released.? See my previous post about it.
And now it’s even better !!
The Developers have added SMS tone functionality. WOOT WOOT.
I won’t walk you through the full app this time, but i will highlight the changes that have been made.
Let’s go
[ad#inblog]
1) Let’s install the update version 2.71 (for new people installing the package, don’t forget to install the BSD package first !)
2) After you have lauched the app. you will notice some changes. Now there’s a new splashscreen.
It let’s you choose either your song library, your microphone (get from the internet) and to delete your custom made call ringtones.
3) After you chose one of the sources for your ring/sms tone. You can choose either a Call or SmS ringtone. Let’s take the SMS tone for an example. You will see a warning (use short ringtone for sms).
4) Let’s walk through the options. When using quick conversion for the SMS tone, you will automatically go to the advanced tab.
In the advanced tab, you can choose to preview your song. You can select the length and start of the tone. And you can select
if you want to fade-in or fade-out. I must confess, that the sms-tone conversion did not always worked very well. Sometimes the app just hangs or keeps playing a few seconds your chosen song. There’s some room for improvements.
5) After conversion, you have the option to listen to your tone, restart and chose another by clicking close or by converting it. when you click convert, it will popup a new screen and tell you to change your sms tone to the first one in your settings (tri-tone).
6) Ther’s also the option to record your tone via the microphone. You can record it, listen to your recording and then go to the advanced converting options.
Overall a very nice app, but as stated before it still has some little bug’s, especially in the SMS tones conversion.
I also found out, that when you have changed your sms tone (tri-tone) it’s not possible to return to the original tri-tone version. So if you really don’t like to lose this tone, or you would prefer to undo any changes you have made to your sms tones, i do not recommend using this app for your sms tones.
In my previous post i have made a repository file that only changes your last tone, and that will let you return to your original tone if you’d like.
I’m still on track to add several custom sms tones to my repository.
If you’d like your tone to be added here, please leave me a comment or mail me at multinova AT this domain.
Enjoy

You can download the app by adding the Danstaface: http://i.danstaface.net source in your Installer. (See our http://iphonefreakz.com/sources/ page for all sources)

Losing the tri-tone is a very disappointing thing! Unless I can find the tone on your repo or elsewhere, looks like I’ll be restoring soon. Damn 3rd party!!!

Dan,
If you really like i can add it to my rep. But it will not be on the first place, it will be the last one.
Let me know :)

That’d be fine if it replaced the last SMS tone, as I only ever used tri-tone! I actually recorded over the SMS I created that took the place of tri-tone, so at least I’m not dealing with the obnoxious song I used.
If you could put up tri-tone, that’d be great, and I will certainly donate a couple bucks.

Dan, I have added it to the repo. :)
Enjoy

Dan, if you don’t get it to work, drop me a mail and i’ll check it some more, but it should work.

Thanks for your help. I refreshed your source periodically last night, but tri-tone never appeared…that is, until this morning.
Happy to have that simple little sound back. I sent you money to buy a beer or two. : )
Thanks!

the best way to fix tritone is to SSH into the phone thru winscp n copy n paste over the ringtones in the UIsounds folder…info can be found in the comments her: http://www.appleiphoneschool.com/2008/03/30/ringtones-273/
very useful shiz by the way.

Jimbo,
Not everyone feels safe ssh’ing or sftp’ing to their iphone and uploading files there.
I just provided the easy solution if users don’t want to do the above.
April 2nd, 2008 at 2:08 pm
SSH’ing into the phone is certainly the “best” way, as it puts things back to the way they should be. But you can’t deny how much easier it is, especially when you don’t have immediate access to your computer and want to get the ringtone issue fixed!
Thanks again, Multinova!

Hi Jaz,
Do you have the lastest version 2.86? I know this version had some major issues, but they should have been solved. Can you tell me if you have BSD subsystem installed ?
April 22nd, 2008 at 10:31 pm
nope I’ve got 2.85 and yes already installed the bsd SUBsystem.

April 22nd, 2008 at 10:37 pm
I forgot to mention i’m on 1.1.4 already…
April 22nd, 2008 at 10:47 pm
Jaz, maybee a stupid question, but have you selected your first sms tone? the app only converts your first sms tone in the list.
April 22nd, 2008 at 11:27 pm
No its not a dumb question I work as a tech support so i know how it is to think and ask questions to determine whats causing the issue..
So the answer is yes and its still the tri tone thats there and i’ve tried every song I got in the library but to no avail..
again thanks..

yo dude i was able to make it work… did a lot of thing not actually sure what made it work hahahaha….
there 1 thing I noticed though the app cant convert or make a sms tone if the music or the tone is less than 10 secs..
do you have any ideas how to fix that??
thanks,
jaz
April 27th, 2008 at 7:37 pm
Jaz,
I know that theres a limitation of minimuum 10 seconds for the tones, what you can do is take a sound editor and add a few seconds of silence to it, or repeat the tone a few times. One of the best programs to achieve this is Audacity. This is free soft and pretty good check it out at http://audacity.sourceforge.net/ :)
April 28th, 2008 at 4:22 pm
yeah i was thinking of that as well but wasn’t sure what soft to use..
thanks!!

I just downloaded the most recent version of the ringtone converter, and everytime it does the check it comes up with an encoder checking error. Is there a way to fix this?
July 14th, 2008 at 3:05 pm
will it work on the new 3g phone if so where can i down load it?
July 16th, 2008 at 7:45 am
i was wondering in regards to the new iphone 3G, do u need to jailbreak the phone in order to use this app?
July 16th, 2008 at 8:04 am
Hi Justin,
Yes you will have to jailbreak. However the pwnage tool is not yet available. It will hopefully be soon, and then the developers will have to port all their apps to firmware 2.0, so it can take some time before we will see everything migrated to installer v 4.0

Hi, I am having some problems with some ringtones that are stored under the standard ringtones on my iphone 3gs. I bought the phone jailbroken and unlocked from another person and there are some ringtones there that I dont like and I would like to delete them but no sucess so far. I have ringtones version 2.89 for OS 3 but I dont see any option to delete the ringtones that are stored on the phone. I think it is my bad, because when I first got the phone I uninstalled all those programs, including the ringtones 2.89 but then I thought that by installing them again I could have an option to delete these unwanted ringtones but no luck so far. Sorry for the long post, hope someone can help me out.
