Samsung sent out a press release announcing the launch of its new Galaxy Note 8.0, an 8-inch iPad Mini competitor. Piper Jaffray analyst Gene Munster today released a report about a U.S. teenagers survey “from over over 7,700 teenagers”, showing that 40% of respondents currently own an iPhone “which was only 34% 6 months ago”. According to the latest data from IDC, the iPad set a shipment record in Q2 2012, which led to a “better-than-anticipated” quarter for the entire tablet market. Interesting to see is that Samsung & ASUS are slowly gaining market share, but are still far away from Apple. Microsoft issued the Windows 8 Consumer Preview that everyone to download and try. Demonstrating the operating systems ability to scale from the smartphone screen all the way to high-end PCs and beyond. Windows 8 is capable of detecting up to 100 simultaneous touch events or 10 simultaneous users. Yesterday Amazon announced an invitation-only special event to be held in New York city on September 28, a Wednesday. No details beyond that, but it is most likely that they will announce the low-cost Amazon tablet. It is a 7-inch tablet which will cost around $250 running Android.
