Besides the iPhone 5 and iOS 6 Apple also introduced new iPod nano’s and iPod touches and a new version of iTunes for Mac at the September 12th keynote. The new iPod nano’s are larger and thinner. They come in several different colors and the new Lightning connector.
After Tim Cook’s usual talk about how Apple is doing, Phil Schiller took the stage to introduce the next generation iPhone. And as expected it’s called iPhone 5 and it looks just like the many leaked images we’ve seen the last couple of weeks. It’s 7.6 mm thick. That’s a thickness reduction of 18%. It’s also 20% lighter at just 112 grams. The iPhone 5 has a 4 inch retina display. This is the thinnest and lightest iPhone yet.
Analyst Ming-Chi Kuo has released a last-minute research report showing “his expectations” for Apple’s iPod Touch update which will be introduced today. Kuo said that he expects the new model to offer new colors , 4-inch display and thinner body, GPS, camera improvements, cross-device compatibility, A5 Chip and a smaller dock connector. Apple today announced iOS 6 at WWDC 2012. Again, the latest iOS update will pack many new features, such as Facebook integration, improved Siri functionality and a new app called Passbook. But the kicker of today’s keynote was the Maps application. iOS 6 is available as a developer preview today, but will be fully available this fall. More iOS 6 details after the break.
Angry Birds Space is out! We reported on that earlier today. Many people are already playing the beautiful game, as am I. And I must say the game looks and feels awesome. It’s familiar but also very new. Rovio did a really good job here. One might say this is the next generation Angry Birds.
