MacRumors “and Apple’s support discussion boards” reported that “at least” one Fortune 500 company is telling its employees not to upgrade to iOS 6 over a bug with Microsoft Exchange meeting invitations. MacRumors explains “The issue appears when users decline a meeting invitation from an iOS 6 device. AppleInsider wrote that Ameranth, a leading developer of internet and software solutions for the hospitality marketplace, filed suit against Apple’s Passbook digital ticketing app, claiming patent infringement in an ongoing effort to enforce its wireless technology IP. There are a lot of issues with Apple’s new Map app in iOS 6, but there is one advantage, data usage. Apple’s new maps app uses as much as five times less data than Google Maps.
Our data experts performed an identical series of activities on Google Maps and Apple Maps that included searching for several US cities, addresses and airports and zooming in and out to locate specific locations. On Google Maps, the average data loaded from the cellular network for each step was 1.3MB. Apple Maps came in at 271KB – that’s approximately 80% less data! After Tim Cook apologized in an open letter for Apple’s new iOS 6 Maps App and suggested other Map alternatives including webbased Google Maps and Nokia Maps, Apple has also added a new featured section to the App Store highlighting some other “free and paid” map alternatives. This section includes map apps such as RoadMate USA, Waze, Mapquest, Garmin, Bing, and MotionX. Tim Cook “Apple’s CEO” has published an letter to customers to apologize for the new Apple-powered Maps app in iOS 6. Apple replaced Google Maps with their own Apple Maps in iOS 6 but “most” people prefer Google Maps over Apple Maps, Tim Cook wrote in the letter that Apple is “sorry for the frustration this has caused our customers” and even told its customers to use alternative Map apps “like Bing, MapQuest and Waze, or use Google or Nokia maps” while Apple is improving Maps.
