Yesterday evening i was playing around with Customize v2.0. I was installing and applying theme’s, sound sets, icon’s and so on.. Then i went into the preferences options of SMB in Customize and i disabled SMB .. My iPhone asked to be rebooted and tata i had the SPOD (spinning wheel of death).
No matter what i tried, i just couldn’t get back into my springboard.. After searching my iPhone filesystem for a solution, i finally gave up and restored it.
This time i used iLiberty+ and i must say that this unlocking app is really the best that i’ve used so far.
I’ll show you a exact howto.
1) Download the latest version of iLiberty+ from here.
2) Install the app and run it after the installation.
3) On the opening screen, enable the Jailbreak, Activate, Youtube fix, Unlock, Downgrade bootloader and Cydia.
4) click on Advanced. and then on Available on repo.
5) Click on refresh to load all the app’s (payload) from the REPO.
6) Activate the following.
- Appsupport patch for 1.1.2- 1.1.4
- Bootneuter
- BSD Subsystem
- Fix mobile folder permission
- Installer (very important !! if you don’t select this one, you will only have Cydia to install your apps.)
- International Support for iPhone 1.1.4
- Mobile Safari Patch
- OpenSSH
- Relocate Fonts and Ringtones
7) clik on the download button to prepare your payloads. (this can take quite some time)
Now click on local payloads. And select all the options you have there.
9) Now go back to the standard tap.
10) Connect your new or restored iPhone to your PC and wait untill iLiberty+ detects your iPhone. (you will see it when iLiberty ’s GO FOR IT button lights up and when you see Ready on the lower left of iLiberty+)
11) Click on the Go For IT button. Click ok on the popup and let iLiberty do it’s work.
12) If iLiberty doesn’t succeed in finding your iPhone the first time, don’t panic and just disconnect and reconnect your iPhone again.
13) Now watch the screen of your iPhone. This process should take some minutes, so be patient.
14) When it’s finished Your screen should look like this.
15) Now you can setup iTunes to either restore your backup or create a new profile.
16) The next step is now to add the sources of the apps you’d like to have installed. See our how to add sources page and off course our sources page.
Voila that’s it. Easy he

For the moment i think yes. WinPwn is still in beta and hasn’t been fully released so i prefer to use iLiberty untill Winpwn is final

Cyberwiz, If you have a mac, then Pwnage is the preferred method to unlock/jailbreak/pwn your iPhone.
Unfortunately i don’t own a mac (yet) so i can’t write a full review for the Pwnage tool. But i’m currently saving for one, and as soon as i have one, i’ll write the review for the pwnage tool.

There’s not really an option.
but to restore your iPhone to it’s original state you can do the following.
Install bootneuter on your iPhone and flash the bootloader that came with your iPhone standard (3.9 or 4.6) and then just restore in itunes with the firmware you had on it.
If you like i can make such a tutorial (maybee next week, don’t have much time now)

i need help! sorry for spamming ur blog today.. but i just tried unlocking my phone.. i got to the stage where i hit go for it.. waited for 5 minutes and nothing was happening all i saw was a purple screen with the recovery mode on it so i turned it off and then on again.. now all i get is this message:
BSD root: md0, major 2, minor 0 and this keeps repeating.. if i re-connect the usb cable it does show a message saying cradle attached but iliberty doesnt show anything….
please tell me there is a way to recover this.. would hate losing my iphone even before i got started with it.

Yes you can recover from this. It’s not that hard.
I’ll try to explain this without any screens.
1) Disconnect your iphone from your pc.
Let the restore run,
2) Get your iPhone into restore mode.
3) You can accomplish this by holding the power button and home button for quite some time. Even when it turns on keep holding it. After you see the cable and itunes icon, you can let go.
4) Open up iTunes and connect your iPhone
5) iTunes will detect that your iPhone is in restore mode.
6) OPTION click on the restore button (mac) or Shift click on the restore button in windows
7) Load your Firmware version 1.1.4 (you can download it from http://iphonefreakz.com/iphone-firmwares/ my site)
9) Restart the Ilberty process and let me know the outcome

I was having difficulties with my 1.1.4 running with a ziphone unlock so I was advisedto give iLiberty a go, I did it and everything appeared to be running fine except i found I cant turn my bluetooth on, I rerun iLiberty and it will switch on once its done, but when I restore my iphone thru itunes the problem returns

I’m still facing one issue though the volume on the phone seems to be extremely low I have to try really hard to listen to the other person.. is this something you have heard of or know the fix to?

this might be a stupid question but are you sure the volume is set on it’s highest level?
If you are running 1.1.4 you can try to install iAmp, you can locate it in the tweaks section of your installer. If you can’t find it, make sure you add the BigBoss repo ..

Can someone help me please, ilberty just comes up with an error saying Put file failed: C:\Program Files\iLiberty\payload.zip so now my iphone is worthless please help.

I don’t think your phone is worthless yet.
Try to get your iPhone into DFU mode.
You can do this with iLiberty of with Ziphone.
Then go to iTunes and SHIFT + click the restore button.
Load in the iphone firmware 1.1.4 (you can find it on my firmware page)
and restore the iphone to it’s locked version.
If you are so far come back and let me know, i’ll be awake for another 2 hours.

Get your iPhone into Recovery mode, you can do this by holding the sleep/wake button and home button for +30seconds.
The connect your iPhone to itunes and itunes will detect a iphone in recovery mode. then restore to firmware 1.1.4

I just got a new 8 GB iphone. Without doing deep dive into forums I used Ziphone software to unlock my phone. Now I would like to switch to iliberty+ software. I have a couple of questions regarding this :
1. To get my mobile back to factory settings, is it ok if I just restore it using itunes.
2. How do I know which bootloader version(3.9 or 4.6) is available in my factory settings.
3. Do I need to install BootNeuter software to get to my ealier version of bootloader before I go with iliberty+
4. Currently with my phone I have to try really hard to listen to the other person.. For this issue, as per your comment above I was able to get into
tweaks section and locate iamp software. But when I click install it says Dowloading package….but it never says anything later to confirm the installation. Do I need internet connection to install this software? Currently I donot have data plan in my service.

1) Yes just restore with firmware 1.1.4 with itunes.
2) iLiberty will auto-correct your firmware to version 3.9

I would go with WinPwn. WinPwn let’s you create your own firmware (already jailbroken + unlocked) with images and so on.

Hi Mulitnova…Great thread but I have a further question to Sak’s post … I tried unlocking 8GB iPhone with Ziphone … I’m on a standard UK O2 iPhone contract…this appears not to have worked as I can’t use other network SIM cards…fortunately phone still works normally…no idea if it is jailbroken or not
I have a Mac so if i want to go with WinPwn you think it would be OK just to give it a try or do I need to do some restoration first? How can I tell what (if anything) Ziphone has done to my phone?

I had read another guide before yours about unlocking my phone with iliberty. It never mentioned using the advanced settings so i just ran the standard tab.Now on every so often the phone says no service which usually will disappear if i turn on and off. Since i am such a novice and need every step spelled out for me what do you think i should do.I am just kind of happy it is working at all.
this guide works great. youtube is kinda flaky right now, but everything else works great.

I have a specific question:
I have unlocked an american 16 GB iphone successfully with iLiberty and then updated the bootloader to 4.6 with bootnewter. Everything is fine (youtube, wifi,bluetooth), exept for the ihone GSM signal, which varies greatly. There are places where I have 5 bars, while in others I struggle with 1-2 bars, while my other phone is ok. Could this have to do with the unlocking process? I live in Greece and the iphone was brought to me from the States

I have been trying to download iliberty for the last five hours. I know it sounds dumb, but I have been on the modmyfone website and every time I click on the download link I get redirected to a page that has a chat thread. I then tried to download on theiphone project website but when it tries to save files to my computer I get a error saying the file is corrupt. Im so frustrated but stumbled on your site. Can you help?

However I dont have installer on my menu. although it was checked in iliberty. is there an easy way to install this
The Cydia app is not up to date. I followed the insructions to update it. about half of the items have little yellow padlocks by them. I hit update all and confirm as suggested by the instructions and it starts to download stuff, It gives some error mesages, which the instructions say it it will, but then it stops and returns to the main menu. telling me there are still 40 updates to install. Do I need to download all this stuff? also I tunes tells me that there is 1.91 GB of “other stuff” on my phone.. where did all that come from? it looks like all these sources have downloaded by cydia cos there on the uninstall menu with little yellow padlocks by them.

My Iphone now woks perfectly in Australia.
First time i ran liberty it would not reboot the phone into recovery mode and i spent a good few hours cautiously trying to get past that step. I had disconnected the phone and reconnected it and Itunes was saying ok lets activate your phone with O2.
the second time however, after I had restored the iphone with itunes i did not disconnect it. i started iliberty and just disconnected it briefly when told to to do so after hitting Go for it. Itunes put a dialouge up saying the iphone could not be used with itunes because the sim is pin locked or not installed, but liberty was already doing its thing so i left it and everyting worked fine exept i still didnt have installer only cydia.
I restored again.
The third time i used all the payloads listed above and did the whole process in about 6 or 7 minutes.

HI just restored my phone 8 gig 1.1.4 d/l liberty and installed. i added all the payloads in there.when i should not have. what should i do? just click the ones in locals the locals list? also my phone has a t mobile sim and just the emergency call screen on i phone so i guess it is ok to go on? also should the sim card be in (tmobile) or it does not matter…

I’m unlocking my iPhone 1.1.2 with iLiberty 1.5 for mac (previously jailbreak, was using stealthsim and now restored to 1.1.4). I think everything was going smoothly from restoring through iTunes to getting iLiberty up on screen. Now the iLiberty progress bar is still at “entering recovery mode” after more than 1 hour. Is this normal? How long should I wait before “success”?
Am not an expert but had similar sort of problem getting liberty to reboot the phone into recovery mode. I was using a PC not a Mac.

basically I resored to 1.1.4 and left the phone in the cradle and left i tunes open after the restore. I did not disconnect the phone after the restore. Then I opened up ilberty addedd the payloads as listed in the same post. then pressed “go for It”
Only then did I disconnect and reconnect the phone quickly when liberty told me to.
when i reconnected Itunes put up a dialogue box about the phone not being compatible but iliberty went to work any way and rebooted the phone.
also cydia did not work properly. I resolved this by installing cydia (on top of itself as it were) with the appstore installer. and cydia now works fine.
you might need to add some sources before you see cydia in the appstore installer.
I stress I am no expert but I have now done my own phone four times and done three others without any probs. but you might wanna wait for a response from the author. like i said I’m not using a mac. hope this helps
I’ve done the steps but it couldnt detect my iphone even though the itunes detected it. After a while waiting the “Go for it” button ligthed up and i clicked on it but then all I got was “Access violation at address 10001B45 in module ‘ITUNESMOBILEDEVICE.DLL’ . Read of address 00000024.”
now I’m confused. what does that even mean?
Are you using a PC or a Mac?
What firmware version is installed on your iphone?
Is your version of Itunes up to date and working properly?
I am not an expert but have done this numerous times on four differnt phones using iliberty iLiberty+ version 1.3.0.113 on a PC. and i dont know exactly what the error message means exactly but it sounds like a problem with the itunes software. (maybe reinstall it to be sure and disconnect any other USB devices, maybe also run a registry cleaner like reg cure)
If you are in any doubt wait for an expert response from the author of the page.
If you are sure itunes is uptodate (I was using 7.6.2.9 but 7.7 is now available) use itunes to restore your phones firmware to 1.1.4. dont disconnect the phone and leave itunes open once the phone is restored.. open liberty add the payloads and press “Go for it”… Now disconnect and reconnect when ilberty tells you to.
Ignore the itunes dialogue that comes up iliberty should do its stuff.

Yeah I finally got it to work. I’d decided not to use version 1.5 and instead used version 1.2. And then follow exactly the tutorial on iClarified (http://www.iclarified.com/entry/comments.php?enid=847#commentsanchor) my iphone is now unlocked! That was last Friday. Btw, I restored to 1.1.4 (option+restore) using itunes 7.6.1, leave the phone connected on itunes after and then launch iLiberty 1.2 and that’s it. Ver 1.5 has too many options to select and the tutorial wasn’t clear on what I don’t need or need to select. 1.2 is much simpler.
Btw, I’m enjoying my iPhone better than ever before now and loving it.
1.1.4 is so much better than 1.1.2. Love the wiggly stuff! And my t-mobile signal has been in full bar mode, so far has never disconnected unlike the stealthsim days - constantly saying nosim or invalid sim or disconnected during conversation. Thanx to iLiberty, I feel like a free man now!
Please help, i did the grade for the 2.0 and i am having problem downgrading back because i tune is telling i have newer version on my phone and it is not detecting my phone
Let me explain it better. I accedently upgraded to version 2.0 and i tune 7.7. When the upgrade is done my phone is not working. I downgraded the i Tune 7.7 and installed i Tune 7.5 and connected my iphone while i have my iphone in DBU mode. The 7.5 i Tune is not detecting my i phone. I am trying to follow your guide…i must be doing something wrong. Please help

It seems to me you’re already doing that. But from my experience, if itunes doesn’t pick up your phone, quit itunes and then restart. If that still doesn’t work, then reboot your phone again to DFU mode until the restore screen shows on itunes.

I got ILiberty to work last night all apps look like they are working OK with one major exception I am getting a msg on the top left NO SERVICE, I have a tried a few things like re setting the network and that but I still get NO SERVICE when I insert my sim card..
