Shoplist is a very basic program that exactly does what it’s name says.
It gives you a a electronic shopping list where you add your categories and your items.
Once in a category, you can select if you have or need the item.
This app is very basic but it gets the job done.

Well the developer released an update today, and what an update it has become.

Not all the features we’ve seen in the video are there, but it’s already baffling.

Let me take the official notes from Databinge.com :

Today i received the beta invitation of EverNote.

What’s Evernote?
We are all constantly bombarded by information, much more than our brains can handle. So, we end up forgetting all sorts of things.

With Evernote, you can start capturing all of those experiences, ideas, and memories, from both your real and digital life that would otherwise slip away.

Some information you can save to Evernote (pictures, souds, video’s, recipes, route-information, todo lists, website sniplets, and so on).
For the moment they haven’t released a iPhone client, but they’re working on it.

I love the notes app in my iPhone but it’s very limited.
But as we are already getting used to, for every problem we have with our beloved device, a developer has a solution.
Hon Cheng (aka peeinmypantz from databinge) was thinking the same as most of us do. what if i would have a advanced notes ?
He thougt no more and created the app that is now known as moleskine.

What’s so special about moleskine?
A better question would be, what’s not special about moleskine?

For now it gives you the option to organize your data into folders and subfolders, use descriptions and icons for fast and easy recognition.

The developer is currently working on a whole lot of extra functions but i’ll come back later with that news.

Maps offline must be one of the most viewed topics on my whole blog.
I’m happy that the developer has released an updated version, as this version actually resolves a problem a lot of users have.

When you save your map, and then reactivate it, sometimes it happens that the map app is not positioning you exactly above your saved map, so you could be anywhere in the whole world, but not on your saved map.

Springdial let’s you set the people you call the most directly on your desktop.
If your contact has a picture, springdial adds a picture of that person to your springboard so you don’t have to go into your contacts every time you need to call them.
It’s actually a very nice speeddial function.

Personally it think this is one of the most handy utilities for the iPhone.

Let’s proceed to the how to.

A chinese developer created handwriting recognition software, for latin and chinese characters.
The app is called HWPen and it gives you a writing area instead of the default keyboard.

The version is still beta 1.0 but it kinda works, i personally still prefer the keyboard, but some of you will prefer this solution.

Some downsides…

The recognition doesn’t work in the mail-app and in landscape mode, but as this is still beta.. i’m pretty sure that the next versions will solve these little problems.

Let’s install the app and have a look shall we …

Now this is a very very interesting little app.

Imagine you’re going on a trip to a certain city, but you don’t want to cary a gps around, then this app is your friend.

It lets you save a map or a route for later viewing.
I know that some cities have town covered wi-fi, but a lot of cities don’t, and if you have a map of where you’re going … you can always find your way :)

How does it work?

You browse the map you’d like to save with the google maps iPhone app.
Then you start the app, and save the current sqlite file (in my case it is Westvlaanderen).

Now when you’re offline (not connected to wi-fi or gprs) you can still use that map or any other map you have saved.

The same goes for routes :)
