The iPhone-Dev team just put a new message on their blog. They announced that firmware 2.2 is still unlockable for the iPhone 2G and it still let’s you jailbreak your iPhone 2G, iPhone 3G and iPod Touch. The official word is:The second beta of firmware version 2.2 has been out for a few days.  It looks like Apple still doesn’t have a fix for devices already prone to the pwnage jailbreak and unlock.

LogoMe is a new application available in Cydia via the BigBoss source that allows you to change your iPhone’s boot logo without the need to restore or rejailbreak. I have used it, and it seems to work fairly well. There is a few holdbacks, though. More is explained inside. » Cydia – LogoMe
The DevTeam just let the world know, that they have a pwned and still running baseband.
Though they consider this step “significant”, they cannot say how far down the road of unlocking 3G iPhones they are at the moment…

Only 2 days after the release of Fring, there is already a hack available that allows you to make free calls via the 3G network. Fring has been allowed to the App Store under condition that you can just use it to make phone calls via WiFi networks. But on the Fring forum you can already find the instructions on how to perform the hack.

A new application is now available in Cydia called Backgrounder, which leaves applications running even after you hit the home button. Traditionally, the iPhone will terminate an application after the home button is depressed to return to the home screen. Backgrounder, as the name implies, lets applications run in the background allowing you to return to them in the future. This ability is great for applications such as MobileCase for downloading podcasts in the background while you surf Safari or check Mail, or for instant messaging applications to continue to run like BeeJive. The downside is that your battery life will be quickly depleted.
