iphone4 jailbreak limera1n
George Hotz aka GeoHot just announced on his blog that he just jailbroke the iPhone 4. But before you get all excited, GeoHot said “As far as a release goes, it probably won’t happen from me”. But later on his blogpost he wrote “please don’t ask for release dates. Every person that does makes me want to release a little bit less.”. So it looks like he has some plans on releasing limera1n, but we probably have to wait a little longer. We will keep you updated.

So it seems like he’s saying that he “might” be willing to release his jailbreak. But the more people pester and ask him ‘if” he’s going to release it the more he doesn’t want to? For crying out loud just release it and help the community out. Why all the selfishness all the sudden.

I appreciate everyone’s hard work in the community. This includes the DevTeam, GeoHot and ANYONE else I’m forgetting about. But at the end of the day it’s supposed to be about helping the ENTIRE community and not acting the way Mr. Hotz seems to be. No offence to him though. Just making an observation. I personally hate stepping on toes. But I also want my iphone 4 jailbroken lol. HELP! :D

The reason for the “selfishness” all of a sudden by these great programmers is pretty simple if I understand the situation correctly… they are using Apple code in order to complete the jailbreak… as soon as they release it Apple sues them for using their proprietary code, and they go to jail. You can imagine… would you rather lose your freedom, your finances, and your house in order to satisfy a bunch of users who constantly pester and beg them to release it? Ummm, no.

I’m sure, the challenge for the hacker is accomplishing the goal, he’s done it, but so far he’s done it in a way that would put him at major financial and legal risk. I’m sure he’s probably working on ways to reduce those secondary risks. But for now, the article is just sharing the news that he has indeed succeeded in Jailbreaking it. I sure look forward to a public jailbreak being released!

@Dan As far as I knew it the impeding jailbreak was origininally using Apple’s code. However I thought the DevTeam had constructed their own software app that will supposedly release soon thus thwarting any Apple suing issues against said hackers. Now Mr. Hotz on the other hand I have no clue what jailbreaking method he used as he did not share what exploit or whether said exploit used an of Apple’s code or not. So who knows. I hear what you’re saying but I think the hackers are past that hurdle already. It’s all a matter of timeframe for release. And it looks like they (DevTeam) will be waiting until after Apple releases the 4.0 software update (4.0.1 or 4.1).
