Today Apple released the iPhone Firmware 3.1 Beta for developers. The iPhone SDK 3.1 is also ready to be downloaded from the iPhone Dev Center. It said so in the e-mail send to developers.

Both versions are intended for testing purposes only and have to be installed on iPhones developers use for development (so, not on your regular iPhone), according to Apple. The iPhone Dev Team made a warning that there will pretty soon be a new update available because the OS 3.0 still had several bugs.
One of the first discoveries show that the baseband has been given an update to 5.08.01. This means that UltransOw users won’t be able to install iPhone OS 3.0, for now. You’ll risk a permanent lock.
Other discoveries include:
- Video: editing a video now includes saving the original full lenght clip you recorded by pressing ‘Sace as copy’ (only for iPhone 3GS).
- Voice Control now also works via Bluetooth (only for iPhone 3GS)
- When you replace icons on your springboard you’ll feel the iPhone fibrate.
- MMS is now standardly activated, but still doesn’t work for AT&T users.
- Improvements in OpenGL en Quartz.
- And for the developers: there’s now a VideoEditorController API which external developers can use to summon the videoediting UI in their applications.
Apple has not yet announced the release date of iPhone OS 3.1 for the normal user audience.
