Crave.cnet.co.uk reports that the iPhone OS 3.0 has been downloaden a 6 million times. That’s roughly 1.3 petabytes, or 1,3 million gigabytes. Apple’s servers have certainly be busy. And all that in less then a week.

OS 3.0 is 230 MB big and in five days it has been downloaden by 6 million enthousiastic iPhone users, some even downloaded it several times.

But the downloads didn’t entirely go as planned. Neither did the activations. Apple decided to give Americans who had to wait 48 hours before their phone was activated,a 30 dollar compensation. Together with a total sale of 1 million iPhone 3GS devices, it really is a big accomplishment in such a small week.
