Today The Sims 3 has been released worldwide. After all the hype, the screenshots and many videos about the gameplay, the game is finally here. We’ve seen the graphics and the many options available. The official PC game of The Sims 3 will be released soon as well. Is the iPhone version worth the money?
After The Sims (and its seven expansion packs), The Sims 2 (and eight expansion packs, plus ten ’stuff’ packs), The Sims 3 doesn’t need a huge marketing campaign. Still lots of hype was generated.
On TouchArcade a ‘First Impressions’ review has been posted. I myself am waiting for the PC version to arrive and am looking forward to building houses. In the iPhone version that’s not an option. You are very limited to building houses. There are also limitations to making a Sim personality. But what can you expact from a $9,99 game?Â
TouchArcade says: “Naturally, the game begins with the creation of your Sim. Veterans of The Sims games may be slightly disappointed by the limited options while customizing your character as you’re limited to sex, hair, eyes, shirt, pants, and shoes along with color selection for each. Personality choices are also fairly restricted.”
After finalizing your Sim, a short tutorial will give you a introduction to the controls to get you started.Â
“The controls take some getting used to, mostly due to the inherent inaccuracies in trading a mouse pointer for a fat finger.”

The graphics look stunning looking at the pictures and the many videos released lately. Can the iPhone handle the stress?
Â
“The performance on my iPhone 3G is average. The Sims 3 doesn’t run at a particularly high framerate, nor is it jerky to the point of being unplayable.
The biggest letdown — and again, somewhat expected for a $9.99 iPhone game — is the lack of a real build mode. If what you enjoyed about The Sims series is building your house, you’ll be disappointed to find that your options are limited to buying and selling furniture, along with moving and rotating it.”
Â
Seems like you have to get used to the controls and have no high expactations. You alos need ten bucks. But if you really are a big fan of the series than this has to be one game to add to your reportoire.

Their opinion: “The Sims 3Â is an extremely ambitious game for the iPhone, even with the limitations it has, but if you’re like me, and really enjoyed building elaborate houses, you’ll probably want to take a pass. If what you spent the most time doing was cultivating virtual relationships between your Sim and the other Sims in your neighborhood, you’ll find yourself right at home once you get the hang of the controls.”
Since I like to build houses with these games, I think I’ll skip this version of The Sims and wait till I get my hands on the PC version.
App Store: The Sims 3 $9,99.
