Rumors told us that the next iPhone would have a compass. The pictures provided show the compass in action. They also show a feature that wasn’t available on the iPhone before: auto-focus.
The picture below shows the auto-focus and compass in action. UMPCFever is a Chinese-language site and posted the pictures and details, but apparently the message has been removed. According to the information the auto-focus uses a square on the screen which can be moved around to select a piece of the screen where auto-focus needs to be used.
The previously spreaded rumors told us about a digital compass for the next gen iPhone. The picture on the right seems to be evidence for the digital compass and the software that belongs to it. UMPCFever also says the iPhone  you see in the picture is a prototype of the new iPhone.
Although the story is consistent with recent rumors, UMPCFever can not immediately trusted because we never heard of them.

You can see the magnetometer (a.k.a compass) in action in a video posted here (it’s from the google phone Android).
Update: Below are another couple of pictures about the auto-focus function implemented in the OS 3.0 software. The UMPCFever website is still down because of the amazing amount of traffic caused by the leaked pictures also shown in this post.Â
