Rip-Dev is back. Some days ago they announced a new product that will work kinda like the app store. The application called Installer App will have the posibility to download packages from Cydia and Installer straight to your desktop and then sync them to your iPhone or iPod touch. The official word from Rip-Dev is:
Practically it is a desktop variant of our own Installer.app. It will allow you to view and install packages that are present in various Installer and Cydia repositories by downloading them to your computer and then synchronizing via the USB cable with your iPhone.
With InstallerApp you will be able to install many of the available third-party software packages, both requiring the system partition to be writable, and the ones that do not. Yes, there are less packages that don’t require writable system partition, but it does keeps your iPhone more secure.

Once installed on the iPhone, the package will be stored on your computer’s hard drive and InstallerApp will (just like iTunes) notify you of updates. You will also be able to quickly reinstall the packages you have after the restore, without having to select each of them individually.
We got plenty of plans on enhancing this solution – for starters lets mention that in the future you will be able to get trial versions of the installable commercial software… and much more.
InstallerApp is in beta testing now and we anticipate the 1.0 release soon. We’ll keep you posted on the progress.

Will it also work in reverse? i.e. will we be able to download new cydia apps directly to our phone, then when we sync to our computer, will it take new apps from the phone and sync them to the computer? Also, what about apps that were installed previously? Will they save to our computer the first time we sync?
For the first time in a long time it sounds like RipDev may actually release a worthwhile app! I use Installer 4.0 maybe 1% of the time versus Cydia which I use 99% of the time for my third party apps. But this desktop version of Installer actually sounds promising. I’m sure many will disagree with me because it’s RipDev we’re talking about lol. But I’m willing to give them a second chance if they can release an awesome product. :)
I’m very frustrated because I can not installe cydia and I am getting very mad:(!

Hi,
I have installed InstallerApp on windows XP. I have iPhone 3G (firmware 3.0).
Whenever I connect iPhone to my laptop, InstallerApp (if open) crashes.
I am not able to do anything on iPhone using InstallerApp.
Is this a known issue?
Any solution??
Please advise.
