Yes it’s official. Saurik tweeted that tonight the Cydia Store is going live. So let’s recapitulate why Saurik is making a App Store alternative? Apple has a very tight policy regarding allowing apps have xs to core feature of the iPhone.
Most of our very beloved apps (PDANet, SwirlyMMS, BiteSMS, WinterBoard and so on and on) wouldn’t even be running on our Phones if it would be up to Apple.
The reason why the Cydia Store is being launched is to make developer who like to make a little revenue for their apps it a bit easier.
Tonight Jay Freeman (Saurik) is pushing the update to Cydia, known from this day on as the Cydia Store.
A interesting fact is that there will already be one package ‘for sale’.

I don’t quite understand the comment about pirates. Who are money hungry pirates? Did you find pirated software on Cydia or what?
Anyway, I tried the Cydia Store and purchased the picture contacts proggy. Worked just fine. I just hope this doesn’t mean the end of free software on Cydia?
