Apple has released the new firmware, 2.2 for iPhone and iPod Touch users. The features of 2.2 are:

  • Enhancements to Maps
    - Google Street View
    - public transit and walking diretions
    - display address of dropped pins
    - share location via email
  • Enhancements to Mail
    - resolved isolated issues with scheduled fetching of email
    - improved formatting of wide HTML email
  • Improved stability and performance of Safari
  • Podcasts are now available for download in iTunes application (over Wi-Fi and cellular)
  • Decrease in call set-up failures and call drops

There is no sign of a release of the jailbreak/unlock program as of yet but I’m sure it won’t be too long.

  2. asa Says:

It’s hard to understand what apple thinks is a priority in their software updates..vs the public… street view may work for a tiny % of the world….

  3. hood Says:

how does street view work anyway.

  4. nikhil Says:

lol we in Perth have streetview and google transit. Sydney, Melbourne of any of the other larger states don’t have transit. Go Perth!!

Personally I think Apple keep doing these up-dates to try and deter the excellent jail breaking community. Also getting fed up with up-dates that only seem to work for the USA market and screw the rest of us. Shame really, but that is Apple for you. I will not be up-dating for a while now until pwnage etc say go!!

  6. Carsten Says:

    No Smileys ??? :(

  7. Wesley Says:

The only feature I’d like to have is the home button going to the first page, but it will kill QuickGold, so I don’t see why to update.

I guess firmware 5.2 will have copy & paste. Just a guess…

  8. Matthew Says:

I like the joke but it most likely a fact lol

are there any bug fixes with this firmware? I’m tired of trying to open up my SMS or any other app for that matter (sms being the slowest) and it takes forever to load…

  10. Carsten Says:

Yep, sms and notebook is ALOT faster now!

  11. johnny Says:

yeh that’s sounds good…hopefully after 2.2 gets jailbroken n we have all the apps n tweaks that comes with it that runs n the background (winterboard, quickgold, sbsettings, etc.) it will still run fast b/c I had to uninstall those apps b/c they made my 3G run super slow!…especially Winterboard

    Hi,

im seriously considering jailbraking my iphone, just to get everything i could wish for.

apple are shafting everyone……. i love the phone, but hate what they are doing to it, they are not giving people what they want!

street view maps?… even if it worked in my area, which it doesnt….. i wouldnt want it.

a better camera (ok, that has to be the next hardware update i know)
    bluetooth file transfers
    video recording
    MMS

these are very basic and old technologys that are on 99% of every other phone, apple should stop shafting people and put these on!!!

it really angers me that they refuse to listen to the thousands of people requesting them.

  13. Prettyhot Says:

  15. Prettyhot Says:

    huhuhuhuhuhu!!!!! help!

  16. 14 Says:

any idea on whats gonna happen to quickgoldd, its huge.

  17. Frizz Says:

The only reason I’m happy about this update is because it brings us one step closer to finding out what they’re going to include in 2.3 (Fingers crossed for copy/Paste).

  18. Frizz Says:

On pleasefixtheiphone.com, #6 on the list is ‘Fix browser crashes’. Would this update cross that off the list? Because it does state that it improves safari stability. I am not willing to update until its jailbroken.

  19. D Says:

ERROR 1602 upon updating, had to uninstall itunes (yes, I updated itunes to 8.02 prior to the 2.2 attempt), uninstall Quicktine, Apple Mobile.

    Windows Vista Ultimate

  20. asa Says:

i agree much faster running most apps.

  21. asa Says:

I have noticed the app store being down allot since the update..anyone else?

  22. Awayze Says:

Then you shouldnt have got the iPhone. You knew what you were getting when you bought it!

  23. iambored8907 Says:

Ripdev just released “Pusher”. Its an app that will semi-jailbreak the iphone! It doesnt allow root access (so you cannot modify the OS or install OpenSSH), but adds installer and kate. You can also have a custom springboard background, and none of it voids the warrantee like pwning

  24. hellbuster Says:

Looks like apple finaly have put an notifier into the iphone… i got a sms and i didnt read it, and some minutes later the phone vibrated and made sms sound, so i thought i had gotten another sms but i still only had 1 sms in my inbox :D So the phone notified me beacuse i had an unread sms in my inbox.

  25. johnny Says:

the dev team just released a pwnage tool and quickpwn for 2.2 no unlock for the 3G but it jailbreaks check their website for the bittorrent downloads….blog.iphone-dev.org

  26. chris jackson Says:

    actually, i didnt.

i ‘expected’ all the features of a normal phone from the past however many years to be included in a new phone of todays age.

im glad there is a jailbraking community, i will read-into-it first though.

  27. Jimbo Says:

    It’s working fine on mine.
