at&t considers text to be different than data, thus the text plan and then a data plan.

I got my settings sent to me over the air. You can do it through nokias site, which you can get to through SwirlyMMS. I don’t think it works for iPhone 3G on AT&T unless you call AT&T and get them to change a few settings on your account. If you search for SwirlyMMS on YouTube you should be able to get some help.

I just STILL don’t understand why they can’t just add these features. There is literally no reason or answer they can give me that will justify it.

According to other sites, this would simply be an app, meaning it can’t run in the background. So you’d have to check the app yourself to see if you actually received something. THEN they’ve discussed adding a premium to send them, which is bullshit. When you buy the iPhone, you’re forced to buy the unlimited data plan so you shouldn’t have to pay anything extra. But then that also just makes me wonder why we pay for texting in the first place since we have unlimited data.

Last time I checked, words sent back and forth would be considered data.

When I tried to use SwirlyMMS all I got were error messages. No matter what setting configuration I tried. What settings did you have to try?

I people want MMS they should just pay the $8 for SwirlyMMS. It works perfectly NOW. I know it requires jailbreak, but a jailbroken iPhone is a happy iPhone. For example, mine has:
Better camera app with zoom and multi-shot (Snapture)
Video recording (Cycorder)
Send/recieve MMS (SwirlyMMS)
A flashlight app which maxes out the brightness of the display (not available through App Store)
MxTube for downloading and viewing high quality youtube videos away from wifi
Pdanet, which allows very easy tethering over wifi
dTunes, to search for, download and play music
Firefly, which allows the iPhone to stream it’s music to any computer on the same wifi network, through itunes (it appears in the sidebar automatically)
BiteSMS, which allows you to send cheap texts abroad and compose in landscape mode.

The app store is good for games and a few other things, but a few apps on Cydia add real features which really matter.

Also, I wonder how apple feel about this :P
