As suspected since a time ago Apple has denied entry to the iTunes App Store to Opera Mini. The New York Times wrote about Opera Software earlier today:
Mr. von Tetzchner said that Opera’s engineers have developed a version of Opera Mini that can run on an Apple iPhone, but Apple won’t let the company release it because it competes with Apple’s own Safari browser.
There is still a way out for Opera and that is to publish the browser via the jailbreaking circuit. But the browser maker don’t want to say if they are considering this or if all the efforts have been for nothing…to be continued.

waiting it from Cydia
Apple is becoming like microsoft.. even IF it’s just iphone, I don’t like how we don’t have a choice on a browser. Safari crashes way too much. I don’t surf much on my iphone because of it.
Apple playing big brother again  I hate it when other people decide what I can and cannot do on MY iFone
What the hell does it matter which browser you use anyway?
They do not want OperaMini enabling flash in a second time..
For me Safari is the best mobile browser, i have tried a lot in the past and Safari is simply the best out there, also the are a lot of webapps just for Safari so i dont think would be a good choice to use another browser in the iPhone.
Fair enough, but would you not like to CHOOSE what browser you want to use, rather than just being told?
True, Safari does crash especially if you have a few tabs open.
hell safari crashes if i have one tab open
jap safari often crashes on my iPhone.. but on pc it’s best browser
Apple CRAP! arrghhh…
it would be awsome if opera mini was to be released through cydia so we could try it out
Now THAT is a good idea
it would have been funny if they accepted
Well, first this could be considered as monopoly and Apple should be sued. Imagine allocating resources for the development of an application and just not being able to distribute it, one thing is say no to a home developer, other is to deny it to a big company…
Opera should not only distribute under Cydia but incentivate jailbraking, should piss Apple off…
Hopefully we see it under Cydia. Apple does seem to want to keep a monopoly over the apps it releases for non jailbroken phones. I’m amazed how many iphoen users have not jailbroken either. They say anything they want is on the appstore.I can’t argue if their happy as it is their phones.
