Turkcell, the leading provider of mobile communications services in Turkey started today with the sale of the iPhone 3G. Next to the post paid subscription fees (€42 and €80/month) it’s also possible to buy an iPhone 3G without subscription, you would have to pay a monthly fee of €129 during the first 5 months and afterwards your iPhone is fully paid.

This will not be the case in Hong Kong where Apple has unexpectedly started to sell unlocked iPhones 3G. Apple’s online store for Hong Kong is now offering both the 8GB and 16GB priced at HK$ 5,400 ($695) and HK$ 6,200 ($798)

A description on the product page shows:

iPhone 3G purchased at the Apple Online Store can be activated with any wireless carrier. Simply insert the SIM from your current phone into iPhone 3G and connect to iTunes 8 to complete activation.

As you can read on the Apple home page “Buy directly from Apple. And choose your carrier”. It’s also believed that this is the first time that Apple is offering the iPhone 3G direclty from the online store and recomands to buy an simlock free device.

The iPhone was already available in Honk Kong since beginning of July via Hutchison Telecommunication but only with a post paid subscription. If you are planning a trip to Honk Kong you can buy the 8GB model via the Apple Store for HK$ 5.400 ($695) and the 16GB model for HK$ 6200 ($798).
