We all know that MMs is not supported by default on the iPhone. However on the older firmware 1.1.4 we have had SwirlyMMS for quite some time now. The latest release fo SwirlyMMS for 1.1.4 was on the 19th of July. But all of us who either have a new shiny iPhone 3G or the ones that have upgraded to firmware 2.0+ are currently left out.
SwirlyMMS updated their blog to inform us that they are working on a SwirlyMMS that is compatible with firmware 2.0 and upwards.
The official word out from Swirly’s Place is :
Today (Sep 1, 2008), we made a major breakthrough and sent MMSs between different devices running fw 2.x on iPhone 3G and 2G! But it is yet not public available on firmware 2.x, not through Cydia and not through Installer. We aim for a release in a not too distant future though – stay tuned!
Another fact is that the developers asked Apple to add some features in the SDK cause the sdk as it is for the moment doesn’t allow for accessing the features SwirlyMMS needs.
For all of you who are still running 1.1.4 and who’d like to have SwirlyMMS running i’d suggest you check out their forum untill the iPhoneFreakz forum is up.
