A new package available via Cydia enables you to get a five-icon dock just by itself without using Kate or something else. It’s called “Five Icon Dock” and it’s developed by Jay Freeman, otherwise known as Saurik, the developer of Cydia. It works very well with no bugs or compatibility issues so far.
If you do find some compatibility issues or any other problems, post a coment. Some screenshots are below, but be sure that, if you like it, go donate to Saurik. He’s done a lot for the iPhone community, and I’m sure he’ll do much more in the future.

I would say jay is the *best* iphone developer. Always puts out bug free apps … I’m suprised apple doesn’t want to hire him!
I agree. It’s nice to know that he’s finally getting the recognition he deserves, with many people turning to Cydia because Installer is buggy and beta. Along with many other contributions like this one.
Yes. I agree. I wrote him the other day to thank him and he responded in 4 min. Cool guy…. Just look at his first round at cycorder I mean amazing with no delay in recording and very clear…. I think he can program in his sleep….
I agree 100%, Jay just keeps getting better and better. Some of the stuff frees the iPhone totally and total respect to him for that. I really must now stop messing around and donate :roll:
damn…looks great, but my phone dosen’t work now…can’t call,makes springboard veeeeeeeeerry slow, all icons randomly placed…should have messed up something… but again…lokks great :p
Mine is working excellent, there might be other issues baphomet, but hey, what do I know :oops:
Are you using Kate, and, if so, what happens if you uninstall it? I have heard of the “randomly placed icons” problem occurring for people using Kate.
I think 5 icon dock has had 2 updates so far. One of those updates fixed the problem of the home screen icons displacement. I actually had that problem with Kate when RipDev made Facelift incompatible with Winterboard. After that update all my icons were screwed up. I have gotten my refund from RipDev and am giving it to Saurik. He rulez!!!!
Saurik is cool. In the beginning Cydia seemed to be useless as Installer was the famous one and all apps were on Installer. The Repos were also on Installer. But now (specially on 2.0) Cydia is just amazing. Saurik has completely transformed it.

I don’t even bother with Installer anymore. When I was on 1.1.4 I preferred Installer, now I am on 2.02 I refresh Installer once a week and Cydia every day. :shock:

It’s on Saurik’s Cydia repo. With all of the Telesphoreo stuff.

Think about what he’s done so far, Cydia, Winterboard, Cycorder, and now this. Those of some of the primary things people jailbreak for, and he gets them out there within days. Also I just installed the 5 icon dock, and basically it seems like it just changes it from bein gable to have 0-4 icons to 0-5 icons. Meaning it’s just as easy to use as normally changing your dock!
Whilst we are oozing gratitudes to developers, have any of you tried any of Steffwiz stuff yet? If not, you are missing out on some tasty bits & pieces, go check them out on Cydia. PS – I am not on commission, but damn they are good :lol:

should i do this, cause when i did it with kate my hole ipod got fed up and my home button dtopped working, had to send to apple and get new one. dont know if i should risk it
take away kate..that is one unstable package…. however, anything that comes from jay is clean… download install and move your dock to 5 that simple.

I doubt it was this package. It might have been an issue with your phone.
There is, in fact, one bug in Five Icon Dock. If you uninstall it while you have five icons on your dock SpringBoard didn’t know where to put the fifth icon and stopped working. I have spent the last couple hours fixing this issue (on uninstall the icon is now carefully removed from the dock and moved to a free place on another screen, possibly even creating a new screen if required).
I’m sorry this problem occurred, and I’m going to be more careful about my uninstallation testing in the future. This problem, btw, /is/ easily fixable: you just need to delete /var/mobile/Library/Preferences/com.apple.springboard.plist (which will reset the icon position catalog back to the default, which only has four icons on the dock).
Hi Jay, No need to apologise as far as I am concerned – errors happen at times :roll:
BUT – will there be an up-date to resolve this issue because I do not really understand SSH etc and I also use mac and I think what you are suggesting is either windows, or just SSH :oops:

So there is an update that solves this issue (there was as I left that last comment), but the problem is it can only keep it from occurring. If I understand your issue correctly your phone is already in a state where you can’t get to Cydia.
If not, then we are talking about different issues.

Five-icon Dock just stopped working for me this morning when I installed the update of “Winterboard” and “Mobile Substrate.” It looks like there is a place missing on my dock now and I can’t put an icon there. Any ideas?
I have up-dated both the above and everything is working fine for me on my iphone EXCEPT cannot seem to download or up-date anything in Cydia. I keep getting the message ‘network error – unable to load!! Just used safari and refreshed installer and all my wifi is working!!

Nope…haven’t changed anything else. Maybe you could send me your FiveIconDock.dylib file (located in /Library/MobileSubstrate/DynamicLibraries). Any chance you can do that for me please? Maybe upload it to zshare or rapidshare
Mack, I would love to help if I could, but I have not got a clue how to use SSH functions and I also use MAC – sorry, very dumb when it comes to technical stuff :sad:
Im not 100% that it is Five Icon Dock causing my issue but since I installed it I have had troubles with the phone function of my iPhone.
The ‘phone’ app boots when clicked, shows the dialer, and then exits back to my springboard. If anyone else has had this trouble please reply.
I have restored once due to this issue and it fixed it but I have since reinstalled Five Icon Dock and it happened again.
I’ll be restoring and reinstalling everything I have currently -except- Five Icon Dock and observing to see if the same problem occurs. I’ll reply to my own post with an update.
Tried again. Still not sure it’s Five Icon Dock, but only found the issue after installing it again. Tried to listen to one of my voicemails on visual voicemail and the phone app would exit.
After a few days without installing Five Icon Dock I decided to give it another shot. The only difference this time was I did not restore my iPhone. Everything seems in order this time. It could have been Five Icon, but likely not.
I love this app and am glad to be able to use it.

I have Iphone 3G , 2.1, w/o Kate, have only winterboard installed and five icon dock doesnt work. Cant get it working… Any advice?? :?:

It doesn work flawless on 2.1 software. just install the five icon dock. Restart iphone. Then press 1 icon to get the option of moving around the icons and just move 1 icon to the dock place . I tought there will be some setting in Settings to do that, but there isnt.

Good day to all. I’m only 2 month Iphone 3G owner.
This Five Icon Dock feature is great, but I still have problems with it.
After my first try all my icons was mixed randomly. I have unistalled Kate, but problem was the same.
After I have unistalled RiP Dev feature, part of a problem was cured.
Now I can install additional games/progs without icons being mixed.
But when I have upgraded ‘my SMS’/changed programm’s icon, after refreshing SpringBoard all icons was mixed up again.
Any ideas what to do to avoid mixing icons again??

Massive big ups to ya Jay, but quick question. Seem to be having this problem quite a bit since installing five icon dock. When i launch winterboard and make any changes it scrambles the location of my apps. Do u know if this is just me or a problem? On cylia, latEst update is fabo but had some probs, first, it is constantly updating, is there anyway to make it smoother, and sexond, when u delete an app there seems to be a bug, u are brought out of the pavkages nabager and into the main list, so u have to reenter the packages manager to delete more apps, hope i explained that well like
Same happening with me: 3G, fw 2.2, kate uninstalled, icons keep coming mixed after reboot/respring. Any ideas??? Thx for your Help.

I might have overlooked the answer to this, but I have an Iphone 2g running 3.0… problem is my 5 icon dock still groups itself to the left…help – I really dont want to deal with Kate anymore
