A new application has been released with the name SIMable. It supposedly unlocks the iPhone 3G to all carriers. The video after the break shows you a iPhone 3G unlocked on the network of VodaFone in Ireland. This is off course not possible without a unlock solution as O2 has been appointed the official iPhone 3G reseller in Ireland.
However as this news hasn’t been verified by the iPhone Dev-Team or any other trusted source i would be very carefull with roque applications like this.
Blogger Pat Phelan is also running small giveaway of the application, but notes that the developer does not guarantee its performance.

The link takes you to a page which sells a hardware unlocking method called Simable. I think something has been lost in translation here.
What is the dev team now jesus? We need their approval??? Please. All that matters is if it works, thats all
it’s another hardware hak were u have to cut ur sim. Just like stealthsim
No the dev team isn’t jesus, but they have proven that they can be trusted. this guy has not (yet). They are just warning you to be carefull, this app might unlock more then you think (like personal info or something). Believe me i hope this to be true cuz i’ve been waiting for the unlock, but I would like to see some results before risking my own iPhone.
This is NOT an app, check out the linked video below which shows exactly how for a Nokia and iPhone 3G! Its quite amazing, just a very non-invasive hardware addition!

Great job to the creator!
Piggybacking is nothing new…I dont know why people are making such a big deal out of it. And now, just because its related to iPhone news, its a big deal.
And yes, the Dev team posted on their blog a while back.
We’ve been monitoring the whole “SIM-card unlock†proxy-SIM situation. This involves using a chip that is attached to your SIM card (with a small modification to your SIM) or sometimes a small PCB soldered inside the phone. These sim mods so far seem very very very questionable. Zf has found that they use trickery of the GSM and UMTS network that is considered highly illegal in most countries and they rely on sending bogus IMSIs and various other nasty hacks to obtain service on your iPhone. A couple of our members have worked out how this all “works†and we’ll try to publish our findings soon. DevTeam recommendation: Steer clear, don’t use!
Hey, SIMAble is not an app, its a small device to be attached with the sim card…

Does anyone know if this unlocks the iPhone 3.0 firmware or not?
