Cydia – MiVTones iPhone 3G to be released in 21 countries on 22 august

Within the iPhone’s OS 2.x apple has implemented the ability to disable apps marked as malicious by apple.

All your phone has to do is simply connect to apple, check for the unauthorized programs, and it kills them if found on your phone. The OS points to a specific URL containing a list of unauthorized apps. A quote from Jonathan Zdziarski:

“This suggests that the iPhone calls home once in a while to find out what applications it should turn off. At the moment, no apps have been blacklisted, but by all appearances, this has been added to disable applications that the user has already downloaded and paid for, if Apple so chooses to shut them down.

“I discovered this doing a forensic examination of an iPhone 3G. It appears to be tucked away in a configuration file deep inside CoreLocation.”

This much different from just removing an application for the appstore. for example: NetShare. if apple had marked it malicious they could have unauthorized it from all iphones where this app would not work

The jailbroken apps, as far as they are not listed in the URL’s blacklist will not be deleted. I am not quite sure how far Apple will go with that list but i think it is quite realistic that they will take some apps from Installer and Cydia and put them on the blacklist.
Right now there are no Apps in that list so you can connect to iTunes without worries. I would look out because of your ipa’s thou, because if you are on iTunes 7.7.1 i am quite sure that there is an Update to search for Cracked app’s like that! Rather buy them for 99p than steal them ;)
