The perfect game for every puzzle freak out there.
PuzzleManiak is an application that not just allows you to play and solve puzzles. PuzzleManiak goes beyond that. The application has wide offer on different puzzle types, a hall of fame online, a Daily-Challenge mode, and an option to send your scores to the internet and compare with others. The application makes puzzling more fun when creating the ability to compete with others. From what I heard the 0.99 version is the last version before going stable and definitive, nonetheless the game already had many updates and runs real good. The 0.99 version update added the option to hide the extra-options bar so you have a better view on your puzzle. You can apply the option by double tapping the top bar.
The application starts with filling in your nickname. As far as I experienced, you have to reinstall the application if you want to use a different nickname so make sure you fill in the right one from the start. The application then takes you to the home screen with 3 options: “Daily Challenge”, “Play” and “Online Mode”.
Daily Challenge: Every day at 0h00 (GMT) a new puzzle will be available through the daily challenge option. You are able to download the puzzle, solve it and then compare your scores with other players. Choosing this option will require a connection with the internet to download the puzzle and upload your score. It’s a fun and challenging option which also feeds us the daily brain training we need! The challenge can only played once, so when you leave the challenge, you are not able to enter the daily challenge until a new puzzle is available for download.
Play: The playmode does not require any internet connection, it’s a list of tons of locally stored puzzles arranged by category. The list counts 27 different game categories. I’ve summed them up below:

Every game has a time counter to determine your score. The games also have an ‘options’ tab where you can adjust the difficulty and size of the puzzles. The bottom bar in the puzzle screen has a few useful options to make it a little easier. ‘New’ will load a new puzzle, ‘Again’ will allow you to do the same puzzle again from the start, ‘Undo’ will simply undo your last action, ‘Solve’ will solve the current puzzle for you and for explanation on the puzzle and how to play the game, there is the ‘Help’ icon.
Online Mode: The online mode is more of an online-settings window where you can:
- Send your scores
- View online scores
- View the Hall of Fame
- View the Daily Challenges scores
(All the scores are maintained through an external website and access through the safari browser)
Summed up, it’s a great application. It doesn’t matter if you like to puzzle or not, it’s the perfect way to spend you time while waiting for your dentist appointment or being in class killing the time! The big amount of different games and the daily-challenge make it possible to play with different sorts and in different modes, so the application will not start to bore you.
